چکیده
PURPOSE Endoscopy-assisted anterior spinal surgery is less invasive, resulting in less tissue trauma. It has a shorter recovery period, leads to less morbidity, and is more cost efficient than conventional surgery. We report our early experience of endoscopic anterior spinal surgery in Thailand, which was performed with a basic laparoscopic instrument set and self-developed instruments for spinal surgery. METHODS All patients who underwent endoscopic anterior spinal surgery from July 2000 to May 2001 at the Orthopaedic Department, Nakhonpathom Hospital, Nakhonpathom were prospectively documented. The two-portal technique was applied on these patients: the first portal, a 4-cm skin incision, was made as the portal for the surgical instruments; the second portal, a one-cm skin incision, was made as the portal for the endoscope. RESULTS Nine patients underwent anterior spinal surgery with the minimally invasive technique. The mean patient age was 51.5 years (range, 17-72 years); 3 patients were females and 6 were males. The procedures included thoracoscopy, retroperitoneoscopy, diaphragmatic crus detachment, discectomy, corpectomy, fusion, and instrumentation. The mean operating time was one hour 58 minutes, and the mean estimated blood loss was 372 ml; there were no serious complications. CONCLUSION Endoscopy-assisted anterior spinal surgery can be performed without spending a high budget; the procedure is not difficult if the surgeon can develop some instruments and has experiences with arthroscopic surgery and anterior spinal surgery.

The Effects of Posterior Spinal Fusion in Patients with Limitations of Anterior Approach: The Experience of Six Cases
Background & Importance: Spinal deformity is one of the most common disorders among the vertebral diseases that results from unnatural curvatures of spine, such as scoliosis and kyphosis. Spinal fusion surgery is used most commonly to treat certain types of spinal deformity. Herein, we reported the efficacy of posterior spinal fusion accompanied by instrumentation in patients with the...

BACKGROUND The early experience with thoracoscopy in children has involved the diagnosis and treatment of pleural and pulmonary diseases. Recent advances have allowed surgeons to perform more complex procedures through video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), potentially decreasing the pain and pulmonary impairment associated with an open thoracotomy. The authors report their initial experi...

AIM The aim of the present study is to evaluate the feasibility of endoscopy-assisted phacoemulsification, intraocular lens (IOL) implantation and anterior segment manoeuvres like synechiotomy where conventional surgery through a microscope view was not possible due to corneal opacification. METHODS This is a prospective, non-comparative, case report series of nine consecutive patients who un...
متن کاملOncological and complication assessment of CO2 laser-assisted endoscopic surgery for T1-T2 glottic tumours: clinical experience
Several therapeutic options are used for treatment of early stage glottic carcinoma (Tis/T1/T2): open partial laryngectomy (OPL), radiotherapy and CO2 laser-assisted endoscopic surgery. Laser surgery has gradually gained approval in the management of laryngeal cancer. We present our experience in endoscopic laser surgery for early stage glottic carcinomas. This was a retrospective analysis of 7...
